aisa hai piya ki aisi si yeh baat thi;
bechaand, bechain, andheri si raat thi.
darbaari darbaar mein kare intezaar,
aur humare chain ki bhi shay aur maat thi.
ya khuda, kahan dhoonde piya,
ya khuda, kaise dhoonde piya,
jab khud hi humein apne khuda ki talaash thi,
aisa hai piya, ki aisi si yeh baat thi.
seene ke taraano mein dil ki bas ek laash thi,
ki humari bhi jaaneman kaash humare paas thi,
kali pe baithi ghadi ki jaisi tik-tik awaaz thi,
bas kuch waisi hi, bhaagi si, phir bhi-
ruki hui si humaari saans thi.
arre piya, jab dulhan ka hi pata la-pata hai,
toh jaayaz kyun nahi, ki chup yeh baraat thi?
hum toh keval aashiq hai miya;
humari kabse koi aukaat thi?
